Historical Background
According to (La Relacion de Michoacan), it all started when .. (not complete yet)
and the 'Señorio P'urhepecha' began.
When King Tangaxan heard what had happened to their neighbours, they decided to surrender peacefully. The correspondant tributes took place, despite this Nuño de Guzman, in his search for more richness executed King Tangaxan.
From the 'Relacion de Michoacan' we have precedents of the fine crafts and work the people carried out. Fine jewellery, pottery, clothes and much more in beautiful colors.
After the P'urhepecha people surrendered, the encomiendas took place. This institutons pursuited the so-called 'care' of the natives and their catholication by the priests.
Artesanias
After Don Vasco de Quiroga employed methods and divisions, the people dedicated to one specific 'metier'. Therefore, Michoacan is a rich and vast state where different artisans let there creation flow using there local resources.
Very important festivals are created in order to appreciate view their best work. Two of these are the Domingo de Ramos in Uruapan, Michoacan during the Easter season and the Day of the Dead artisan market (For moe info see DOMINGO DE RAMOS) And of course, the 'Casa de las Artesanias' also holds a wide collection of these best magnificent pieces (since they buy the pieces to the annual artisan winner).
